Mr. Mitchell’s Class FAQ

August 17th, 2008

There were so many wonderful questions that you gave me but I have assembled the most frequent and relevant below. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, you are free to ask me personally at some point when there is time.

1. What will we be learning this year?

6th grade math will have much of what you learned in 5th grade but move a little deeper and emphasize algebra a great deal more. I am providing you with a copy of the math standards on the back of this sheet so you’ll know exactly what you will need to know for the 6th grade TCAP.

2. Will we have a lot of homework?

No. You will have an occasional assignment and a few projects, but we will do most of our work in class.

3. How will you teach us?

I will try to teach you the way you learn. We will use the computers and the Palms and play different games and take quizzes using the clickers. I think my class is fun and I hope you will agree.

4. If I’m not understanding something, can I get extra help or tutoring?

There will be times in class for me to give you extra help and I can pull students in during my planning period. I also will have occasional after school help sessions.

5. Are we allowed to use calculators?

We will use calculators, more specifically, the TI-15; but we will try to learn many things without them but will also do many things with the calculators. You will have the opportunity to purchase your own TI-15 before the TCAP.

6. If I am absent, how do I make up my work or find out what we did in class?

It will be your responsibility to come to me to find out what you missed. If there is extra time during class I can help you and/or I can show you how to access what we did on the computer. My internet home page is http://k12connections.net/links which will be the main links page for our class.

7. Do you like teaching math?

I love teaching math and I love 6th grade. I have a wonderful job!
